A Note From Debbie Peterson, VP Non-Profit Events

I just wanted to take this time to tell you all about the FNI Back to School Supplies Drive.

Please bring a school supply item with you to your FNI meeting. Your Director will take your items to Publix, or they will take it to the Chamber of Commerce office in your area.

Drive Dates: August 8, 2010 – September 4, 2010

Here is a list of some suggested items:

3 Ring Binder, Pencil sharpener, Hand sanitizer, Scissors, Colored markers – box,

Colored Pencils – box, Spiral notebooks, Loose-Leaf paper, Pencil storage bags / Boxes, Crayons (24 pack), Pencils (12 pack), Composition notebooks,

3 prong pocket folders, Tissues-single pack, Rulers, Glue Sticks, Highlighters, and Backpacks.

Here are some common sense things to do before you take the plunge and purchase your own business.

Investigate and understand what you need to understand about the business without anyone telling you what you are going to make.

Too many times we are lured into a business with ‘hype’ that is given to us by the franchise, or the person who would be ‘up-line’, or even advertisements on the television about the business.  Don’t be afraid to ask questions, ask others in the business and forget about the claims of income, find out about the everyday running of the business itself.

Make sure you know who you are and how YOU really fit into this business picture.

What are your resources, capital, and current income? Can you afford this?

Will the corporation provide what you need to be successful?  Find out what they will provide as far as:

1. Physical help
2. A system that has been proven to work
3. Marketing tools
4. Is it a known brand?
5. Does it have good consumer acceptance?

Don’t forget your own feelings.  This new venture must satisfy your own emotional needs.  Ask yourself, do I like this business?  Will it provide what I need? Does it give me the emotional satisfaction that I need?

Is there adequate training with this company?

Don’t be stupid, follow the prescribed plan.  If there are many who do not follow the plan find out why are they not following it… does it not work?  Does it work for some/most?

Does the company have a try it before you buy it plan?

Does the company give you tools for marketing or does the marketing and advertising start with you?

This is essential:  Do you like the business?

As we end another successful month of FNI Networking After Hours, I’d like to thank everyone who attended and/or sponsored any of our events this month.  We appreciate your positive contribution to the success of these events and look forward to networking with you at future ones.
